Does composting smell?
Not when it’s managed correctly. A healthy compost pile will smell earthy and pleasant.
Odors happen when there’s either an imbalance of brown to green or poor airflow. Thorough mixing usually solves this.

Can I compost citrus?
Yes, citrus can be composted.
Citrus can be composted. The myth has persisted because red wigglers don’t particularly like limonene. A substance in all citrus. Once bacterial and fungal organisms break the limonene down, the worms join in. Adding adequate brown and mixing thoroughly, plus cutting food scraps into smaller pieces is key.
Is compost the same as fertilizer?
No. Compost and fertilizer are not the same thing.
No they’re not. Fertilizer usually adds specific elements to the soil and is faster acting. Somewhat like when humans have a specific vitamin deficiency. Compost improves soil structure itself over time and is a longer acting, more systemic, longer lasting solution. Somewhat like when humans employ a healthier diet over the longer term.
Will a compost bin attract animals?
Only if it’s poorly managed. A poorly managed compost pile can attract animals, but a properly designed and maintained system helps prevent that problem. If I already use fertilizer, do I still need compost?

Can you compost in cold climates?
